Young Londoners Head to Russia! |

A delegation from the RFL is to fly out to Rostov-on-Don in Russia tomorrow to help develop and strengthen the game.
The ten day trip, principally organised by Rugby League European Federation Regional Co-ordinator for Russia Julia Bennison, will also see training undertaken with PE teachers, coaches and match officials. |

Carnegie Champion Schools: ‘Tackling the future’ of rugby league in the South of England |

Since it’s inception in 2003, the Carnegie Champion Schools Program has become firmly embedded in the South of England as the competition structure continues to grow with significant momentum on an annual basis. The 2009 / 2010 initiative saw over 190 boys and 40 girl’s teams go head to head in their local festivals and fixtures, all vying for a place in the coveted London and the South East regional finals. Notably, over the past 7 years 1003 boys teams (and 70 girls teams since 2008) stemming from over 100 schools across 10 County Sports Partnerships have been engaged in the Carnegie Champion Schools scheme in the region.

It was a busy week of Rugby League in South London last week with 6 WCAM Croydon Primary Tag RL festivals taking place over 5 days.
Over 350 primary school children in Croydon enjoyed playing Rugby League throughout the week. Local Minis team West Croydon Broncos are set to benefit from the excitement created at the festivals with kids being encouraged to join the club who play and train every Saturday at Archbishop Lanfranc High School in Croydon. |

We Get Old Because We Stop Playing |
On a bright and sunny Sunday in Mitcham, Surrey, South London Storm Masters played hosts to Medway Dragons Masters out of Storms new home ground Mitcham RFC.
Masters is a new concept for over 35’s who can adapt to the adage that ‘We do not stop playing because we get old; we get old because we stop playing’. With Strom already making their debut to Masters a month prior, it was down to the Dragons to dust off the cobwebs, dig out those boots and take to the field. The Dragons had been in training for 6 weeks and were ready for the challenge of the mighty Storm who paraded a former London Broncos Super League Player in their ranks. |

Brentwood County High: Carnegie Champion Schools National Finalists. |

For the first time in the history of London and the South East, a school from South of the heartlands have made it to the Carnegie Champion Schools National Finals. The Essex based school, Brentwood County High’s Year 8 side finally overcame the disappointment of their trail to Wembley in 2009 when they were knocked out in the last 16.
After a year of regrouping, with support from teacher of the year Daniel Iacono, the year 8 boys confidently cruised through their semi final regional round 32-4 against their Hertfordshire counter parts JFK. With the unpredictable weather disrupting the Regional finals at the Stoop, Brentwood progressed to the national rounds of the competition first up pushing Buile Hill from Salford to one side 46 – 10. It was however, Wade Deacon from Widnes who had dashed their hopes in 2009 that were next to face the boys from Essex in the quarter finals. |

Match Officials Course to take place at Elmbridge |
 Another RFL Match Officials course will take place at Elmbridge Eagles on Sunday 9th May.
This is an excellent opportunity for players, coaches and parents to increase their understanding of the laws of the game as well as providing an entrance into refereeing for those wishing to begin officiating. |
