|
This event culminates a wonderful season for the WCAM London Youth and Junior League with ages from 12 to 18 playing for the season’s biggest prize. First up on the Stoop was the Under 14 clash of Elmbridge Eagles against Brentwood Elvers. This was a hotly contested match with the score at half time favouring the Eagles thanks to some great back line play with Harry Lightfoot-Brown and Harry Griffiths scoring before the break. A wonderful second half fight back from Brentwood led by outstanding young Quins RL standoff Joe Keyes was to no avail, with Elmbridge Eagles clinging on to record a 42-38 result. After a dazzling try scoring display Harry Griffiths was awarded Player of the match.Next match was the Under 13 contest. With the only London Junior league team this season to go undefeated throughout the normal rounds in Brentwood Elvers taking on Medway Dragons. Brentwood started the match in positive fashion posting the first converted try within the opening few minutes. This was just the start in a devastating performance from Brentwood taking a convincing lead into the half time break. After half time Medway fought back in great style with a good backline move resulting in Charlie Faux scoring a try in the corner. But ushered on by a vocal crowd the Elvers powered on to take the silverware 44-14. Man of the match was Carrick RyanWe then saw the Under 16 final take place with Greenwich Admirals against the Hainault Bulldogs. In an end to end contest Greenwich went on to take their first piece of silverware for the day. This match was full of big hits and free flowing Rugby League which had the massive London crowd on the edge of their seat. Greenwich scored not long after half time to give themselves a gap on the bulldogs. But as we had seen all day the teams coming from behind rallied late to cause some headaches. The last 10 minutes of the match saw Greenwich camped under their posts defending like true champions and hold out Hainault for a 14-12 victory. Man of the Match was picked up by Olly White. The Youth league Under 18 grand final was Medway Dragons taking on Greenwich Admirals. This was a fantastic game with some stinging defence with the opening 15 minutes going scoreless. Once the first try was posted the match became more of a contest and saw points scored by both sides. After the break like their Under 16 counterparts the Admirals bounced away and clung on for the clubs second Grand Final win of the day taking the contest 24-18. Greg Vickers capped off his earlier try by winning Man of the Match. The Under 12 Grand final was held at Elmbridge Eagles home ground on Saturday with the Eagles taking on Greenwich. With the Admirals running down the famous Elmbridge slope in the first half they could not convert their chances and were punished for their mistakes with some outstanding long range trys. The first half finished positive for Greenwich posting a try right on the break. With the hill in the second half Elmbridge proved too strong for the opponents with some attacking rugby league skills on show running away with the match 34-4. Louie Carnovale was named best player on the field. The final match to take place on the Stoop on Sunday was the first ever Under 12 Twickenham Stoop challenge cup. This match was played out by Elmbridge Eagles and Medway Dragons. In a highly contested first half Elmbridge took a slight lead into the break. But with some of their stars coming off the bench the Eagles looked too classy to defeat a gallant Dragons outfit 38-0.
